Players are selected through a try-out and draft process as outlined in the Little League Operating Handbook. At Layritz, baseball players who are 10, 11 or 12 years old (by April 30),who did not play Majors the previous season, need to attend tryouts if they wish to attempt entry into the Majors Division. These tryouts are held in March each year at Layritz Park. Players are rated on a variety of baseball skills. Players must attend 50% or more of the scheduled tryouts.
Team Selection: New teams will be selected each year from the list of returning Majors players and from the draft assessment list. This is to achieve more evenly balanced teams. Players may or may not end up with the same coaching staff as the previous season.
Rules: Major League Baseball Rules are contained in the Little League Baseball Official Regulations and Playing Rules manual. In addition to the general ground rules for all divisions, the following also apply to Major Baseball.
Playing Time: All players will play a minimum of three (3) innings defensively and offensively. If a game is called before this is possible, the player or players who are short of this minimum requirement will be in the starting lineup of the next game. Every player must play ONE full game out of every TWO attended.
Knowledge of Rules: At this level of play it is incumbent upon managers and coaches to be very knowledgeable of all the rules and regulations of Little League Baseball. This knowledge will assist in reducing conflict that may arise as a result of misinterpretation or misapplication of the rules.
The following Little League pitching rules apply at Layritz:
a) Any player on a regular season team may pitch. Exception: Any player, who has played the position of catcher in four (4) or more innings in a game, is not eligible to pitch on that calendar day. b) a pitcher once removed from the mound, cannot pitch again during that game.
c) the Manager must remove a pitcher from the mound upon reaching the following limits:
League Age 11-12 85 pitches per day
9-10 75 pitches per day
7-8 50 pitches per day
If a pitcher reaches his limit mid-batter, he may finish with that batter. A pitcher who delivers 41 or more pitches in a game cannot play the position of catcher for the remainder of that day. d) If a player pitches 66 or more pitches in a day, 4 calendar days of rest must be observed.
If a player pitches 51-65 pitches in a day, 3 calendar days of rest must be observed.
If a player pitches 36-50 pitches in a day, 2 calendar days of rest must be observed.
If a player pitches 21-35 pitches in a day, 1 calendar day of rest must be observed.
If a player pitches 1-20 pitches in a day, no calendar day of rest is required.
e) Each league must designiate the scorekeeper or another game official as the official pitch counter
6.05 - A batter is out when -
(b) Little League (Majors)/Junior/Senior/Big League –
(1) a third strike is legally caught by the catcher; (2) a third strike is not caught by the catcher when first base is occupied before two are out.

Game Length: Apart from the regulation game length, the following time restrictions will apply to regular season games:
No new inning will be started after 1 hour 45 minutes when there is another game following.
No new inning will be started after 2 hours, where there is no following game booked on the field. Ex: weeknight games or last game of the day on a weekend.
In the event of a tie, extra innings may be played, within the above time restrictions.
Run Limits: for regular season play the following run limits will be imposed locally and city wide:
Innings 1 - 5, 4runs may be scored. Inning 6, shall be an open inning.
General Comments: In Major Baseball there is no guarantee that players will have an opportunity to play in a variety of defensive positions and may not have the opportunity to move up in the batting order. Although each child will have equal opportunity for playing time, the manager does have the authority to reduce playing time for disciplinary reasons. If discipline has to be administered, the manager of the team involved will inform the Director of the Division and the reasons for the disciplinary action.
Standings: To avoid any confusion, all ties in our In-House Standings will be broken as per the standard defined in the current year Little League Rule book (provided to each team manager at the beginning of the season).
